Decibel Martinborough Single Vineyard Pinot Noir 2016
$31.99
While designing the Martinborough Pinot Noir label, Hawke’s Bay artist Rakai Karaitiana asked the questions ‘What’s so special about Martinborough Pinot Noir?’. While telling his story of how Martinborough Pinot Noir inspired him to move to New Zealand to make wine, Daniel kept returning to the concept of ‘elegance and power’. What’s more elegant and powerful than a woman on the whale holding a French horn? This single vineyard wine was produced from a dry-farmed block with a unique soil structure for Martinborough with clay over top of free draining old riverbeds. Slightly more elevated than the typical river terrace soils than most of Martinborough, this vineyard has great exposure with a northeast aspect. Decibel Martinborough Single Vineyard Pinot Noir 2016 vintage has aromas of baked cherry pie and toasted nuts. As the wine ages hints of earthy mushrooms and grainy raspberries appear. Bing cherry, red currant, rosemary, sweet tobacco, and wet leaves all contribute to the complex and alluring nose of this wine. The palate is crunchy and vibrant in its youth with slightly edgy minerality. It is medium-bodied with a bit of dusty tannins, spice and white pepper on the finish.
