Domaine Faiveley Chambertin Clos De Bèze Grand Cru 2020
$1,099.99
Domaine Faiveley Chambertin Clos De Bèze Grand Cru 2020 is an exceptional wine that delivers a sensory experience unlike any other as it combines the best of Burgundy’s rich terroir with the expertise and craftsmanship of the renowned winery Domaine Faiveley. Based in Nuits-St-Georges, the famous Domaine Faiveley was founded in 1825 and in more recent times, the domaine has greatly expanded its vineyards across the entire Côte d’Or. The grapes are entirely de-stemmed and fermented in a mix of new wooden vats for the top end wines and stainless steel for the lesser cuvées. Once notorious for being fairly austere, there has been less emphasis on extraction over the last ten years and the wines show increased freshness, purity of fruit and more judicious use of oak. A contender for one of the most improved domaines in Burgundy over the last decade. Since the 1930’s, the Faiveley family has owned the largest amount of land in this appellation. They own 3 parcels: “Grands Rangs”, “Clos de Bèze Haut” and “Vieilles Vignes”. Clos de Bèze is the most complex wine from their range and evolves beautifully over time to reveal its true potential. 2020 is a solar vintage yet the wines show a lot of freshness. The yields are low but the quality is excellent with a perfect degree of ripeness. Domaine Faiveley’s Côte de Nuits wines have a beautiful typicity: they are concentrated, floral and fresh with all the finesse of their grape variety. The grapes are harvested and sorted by hand however the proportion of de-stemmed grapes and whole clusters varies depending on the vintage. The wines are punched down daily in order to extract colour, tannins and aromas from the skin of the grapes. After undergoing a 19 day vatting period, the alcoholic fermentation is complete. The free-run wine is run off using a gravity system whilst the marc is pressed slowly and gently in order to extract an exceptionally pure press wine. Then, the wine is aged for 16-18 months in French oak barrels (60% new oak and 40% one-wine barrels) which have been selected for their fine grain and moderate toast. Finally, the wine is left to age in cellars at consistent, natural hygrometry and temperature. As you take your first sip, your taste buds are greeted with a bold, full-bodied flavour that fills your mouth with a deep, rich essence. This wine’s aromas are complex and inviting, with fruity and roasted notes of blackberry, raspberry, and black cherry mingling with hints of vanilla, clove, and earthy undertones. The bouquet alone is enough to transport you to the vineyards of Burgundy, where the grapes were grown under the careful watch of Domaine Faiveley’s expert winemakers. As the wine of intense ruby red hue rolls over your tongue, it presents an exquisite and distinctive balance of flavours that are at once powerful and refined. The tannins are firm but velvety, giving the wine a smooth, elegant texture that lingers on the palate. The taste of rich fruit is complemented by a touch of oak and a subtle hint of minerality, adding depth to every sip. The finish is long and satisfying, with a pleasing acidity that leaves your mouth watering for more. Drink now or will age gracefully with careful cellaring until 2045. A majestic red, serene and refined, displaying cherry, strawberry, dried rose, sandalwood, licorice and iron aromas and flavors. Firms up, turning denser as this builds to the finish, all the while remaining balanced, poised and complex through the lingering aftertaste of fruit, spices and mineral. Ethereal. – Wine Spectator, 98 Points The 2020 Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru is brilliant, unwinding in the glass with aromas of wild berries and cherries mingled with dark chocolate, sweet spices, peonies and grilled squab. Full-bodied, layered and velvety, it’s concentrated and multidimensional, with a dramatically textural, perfumed palate and a long, saline finish. – Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, 97 Points The Finer Details Style – Red Wine Varietal – Pinot Noir Country – France Region – Burgundy Vintage – 2020 Bottle Size – 750ml ABV – 13.5%
