Bannockburn Douglas 2014
$31.99
A beautiful red blend of Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir and Merlot, Bannockburn Douglas 2014 is an approachable wine with plenty of complexity and structure to please the most seasoned wine lovers. The richness of the Shiraz is balanced nicely with the tension of Cabernet Sauvignon. Merlot helps add sweetness, with Pinot Noir providing versatility in food pairings. A bouquet of smells and flavours await, consisting of cassis, black olives, truffles, cherries and liquorice. This red is one specifically designed for group consumption, discussing it’s various notes and complexities. In the early 1970’s, Bannockburn founder Stuart Hooper purchased a plot of land near the township of Bannockburn. The site had a rich heritage of viticulture and premium wine production from the mid to late 1800’s. Soon, Stuart began growing shiraz in 194, and the rest is history. Ever the purist, Scott had an uncompromising approach in the vineyard, which helped grow the Bannockburn label into a recognizable, premium wine. Currently Matt Holmes has taken over winemaking at the vineyard, who is keen to highlight the fruit and tread lightly and input gentle directions in the growing season. Some of the oldest vines in the Geelong region (located just 25 kilometres northwest of Geelong), Bannockburn grows 7 varietals over 26 vineyard blocks. The soil allows for controlled growth, but only require gentle touches for quality to be maintained. Rainfall in the region is much lower than its neighbors in the Yarra Valley and Mornington Peninsula. Very mild temperatures allow for a mild, extended ripening period, which is perfect for creating healthy vines and gradual flavour development.
