Freemark Abbey Napa Valley Chardonnay 2021
$84.99
Today, Freemark Abbey is many things to many people: a team of some of the most respected winemakers working in Napa Valley; a historic 1886 winery and pristine estate, with an enthusiastic hospitality program that highlights both; a collection of source vineyards up and down Napa Valley, representing several of California’s most distinctive terroirs; an extensive—and unparalleled—wine library that stretches back decades; and a winery that, because of its long history and international reputation, is one of Napa Valley’s true ambassador brands. The primary vineyards used for the 2021 Ahmann Vineyard, Rancho Sarco, Huichica Vineyards with the majority of Chardonnay grapes being clone 4. The wine was 84% barrel fermented in 40% new French oak barrels and 15% stainless steel for ten months. 2021 Napa Valley Chardonnay is intended to be the best of both worlds stylistically. The nose opens with rich and layered aromas of pear, mandarin, tuberose, vanilla and oak spice. The palate is met with flavours of brioche, apple pie, lemon curd and fresh pineapple. It has a creamy texture reminiscent of crème brulee with a finish that is bright and complex with incredible length. Tempting spicy, earthy, toasted oak aromas lead to densely layered pears, almonds, wood char and crème brûlée flavours that fill the palate and echo for minutes on the finish. The wine is full-bodied, almost thick in texture and powerful in flavour. – Wine Enthusiast, 93 Points.
