Mountadam Eden Valley Pinot Chardonnay Sparkling NV Eden Valley – 6 Bottles
$148.00
WINERY INFORMATION Vineyard 2013 was a warm and dry season at High Eden with low to moderate yields across our mature Chardonnay blocks. The weathered 500 million year old micacceous meta-sandstone bedrock that forms the ridge of Mountadam was once an ancient shorelines and has produced quartz rich, acidic soils with little water holding capacity. Small and regular irrigation was critical through the ripening period of 2013 to maintain the vines in their best condition. Three of the four clonal components of this wine are from the oldest (38years) and highest elevated plantings of the estate at 550m. Only the 29 year old II0V1 component comes from a distinct quartz outcrop planted at 470m. Winemaking Predominately from the excellent 2010 vintage, this wine is a blend of 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay. Consistent with classic Non Vintage (N/V) styles a small amount (7%) of older base wine tirage material still on yeast lees and held back from 2006 was decanted and blended back to add significant depth and complexity TASTING NOTES Rich green colour and hints of salmon pink. The aroma is of ripe figs, strawberries and crisp ripe fragrant apples complemented with very subtle yeast characters reminiscent of freshly baked dough. The flavour is complex and rich with a dry delicate finish. There are elegant ripe fruit characters of quince, strawberries and melons enmeshed around a crisp citrus core with a mild nutty and slightly creamy length of flavour.
