Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey is a renowned winery located in Chassagne-Montrachet, a subregion of Burgundy’s Côte de Beaune. This esteemed producer is recognized for its exceptional Chardonnay wines, with a significant portion of its vineyards situated in Saint-Aubin. The estate was founded in 2005 by Pierre-Yves Colin and Catherine Morey, both offspring of esteemed winemakers in Burgundy. Previously, Colin had served as the winemaker at his family’s winery since 1995. In 2001, he embarked on a négociant venture with his wife. Eventually, in 2005, Colin departed from the family estate to establish his own label, retaining a six-hectare (15-acre) portion of the Colin vineyards, while the remaining parcels were retained by his siblings (Caroline, Joseph and Damien) who currently manage Domaine Marc Colin. Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey possesses vineyard holdings in several premier cru sites in Saint-Aubin and Chassagne-Montrachet, including Chatèniere, Champlots, Remilly, Chenevottes and Caillerets. Furthermore, the domaine procures grapes to produce wines from various grand cru vineyards, notably Bâtard-Montrachet and Corton-Charlemagne. While the estate primarily focuses on crafting exceptional Chardonnay, it also produces a smaller quantity of Pinot Noir sourced from Saint-Aubin and Santenay. In the winery, Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey avoids battonage, instead favouring extended contact with the lees and barrel aging. The wines are bottled without filtration and often without fining, showcasing the pure expression of the vineyards and the winemaker’s meticulous craftsmanship. This wine is predominantly sourced from 55-year-old vines in the Hautes Cotes de Beaune, just beyond Saint Aubin and close to Nolay. Around 15% of the blend comes from Santenay. The winemaking process involves direct pressing, followed by aging in large 2-3-year-old barrels. It is then bottled without fining or filtration, aligning with the winemaking approach of PYCM. Upon release, the wine displays a pale yet vibrant pink/red colour, which gradually transforms into a delicate salmon hue after 6-12 months of bottle aging. The Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Bourgogne Rose de Pinot Noir 2022 is a delightful rosé wine that showcases the winemaker’s expertise in crafting exceptional expressions of the Pinot Noir varietal. The wine entices with captivating aromas of fresh summer berries and delicate flowers, creating an inviting bouquet. On the palate, it delivers a vibrant and invigorating experience, with pronounced notes of red berries and floral accents shining through. The wine’s refreshing character is complemented by balanced acidity and a subtle touch of minerality, adding to its overall appeal. This rosé offers a truly exceptional drinking experience, with its finesse, elegance and spirited character leaving a lasting impression. Its complexity is remarkable, revealing layers of nuanced flavors and aromas that further enhance its allure. Due to limited production, this exquisite wine tends to sell out quickly. Therefore, it is advisable not to wait until summer to secure a bottle of this exceptional offering.
