The Yangarra High Sands Grenache 2014 is a wine of exceptional quality, often heralded as the finest Grenache in Australia. Sourced from a single block of 70-year-old bush vines in the Blewitt Springs, the fruit is carefully plunged in open top fermenters with only wild yeasts being used, resulting in a wine that is truly expressive of type and place. As the flagship wine of the Yangarra winery, the High Sands Grenache is made with 100% Grenache and sourced from gnarly old bush vines that were planted in 1946 and situated at the highest altitude in their vineyard. The wine is intense, complex and expressive, showcasing the unique terroir of the Blewitt Springs. The 2014 High Sands Grenache is a wine to behold. It has been compared to the great Grenaches of Chateauneuf du Pape, iconic wines like Rayas and Beaucastel. In the glass, it is a deep ruby red color, with aromas of dark fruit, black pepper and spice. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, with flavors of black cherry, plum and a hint of licorice. The tannins are firm but well-integrated, and the finish is long and satisfying. “ This is stunning Grenache. Beautiful fragrance here – fresh field roses, raspberry, aniseed and dried mint, almost a chocolate thing going on too. Dusty and spicy, great length of flavour, with earthy tannin grounding it and pushing it long. Incredibly good wine. Hard to choose between the 2013 and 2014. The former with maybe more length and impact, the latter all grace and charm. 96+ points, though could even twist my arm to 97” 96+ points Gary Walsh – The Wine Front The Finer Details Style – Red Wine Varietal – Grenache Country – Australia Region – McLaren Vale, South Australia Vintage – 2014 Bottle Size – 750ml ABV – 14.5%
